Program Introduction
The C3L6 Asia Camp will be taught by Dr. Peter Wothers and Dr. Alexander Thom, both Professors of Chemistry at the University of Cambridge, with the original British coaching team coming to China. It will focus on in-depth theoretical study and discussion of knowledge in advanced chemistry fields such as organic chemistry and physical chemistry. In the practical experiment, students will be able to experience the deductive process of formulating hypotheses, designing experiments, and verifying conclusions. While enhancing practical skills, students can apply what you have learned and consolidate the knowledge, enabling students to experience an international top-level chemistry academic courses in China. Besides, C3L6 Asia Camp provides a Cambridge chemistry application session&mock interview showcase to offer students a chance to applying for prestigious universities. Participants will receive an official certificate of participation from the C3L6 Asia Camp.
Pre-Assessment

Academic Highlights
Exceptional Program Supervisors from Cambridge: Prof. Peter Wothers will serve as the Program Supervisor.
Introduction to Excellent Program Supervisor
Lead Academic Supervisor

Dr. Peter Wothers
Chair of the Cambridge Chemistry Challenge / Professor of Chemistry at the University of Cambridge
Dr. Wothers is a Professor in the Department of Chemistry and a Fellow of St Catharine’s College, University of Cambridge. In 2010, he founded the Cambridge Chemistry Challenge (C3L6). From 2000 to 2019, he was actively involved in the International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO), serving as its President, and from 2011 to 2014, he also served as Chair of the UK Chemistry Olympiad Academic Committee. In 2012, he delivered the renowned Royal Institution Christmas Lectures. He has made significant contributions to chemistry education and has authored numerous chemistry textbooks.
Professor Wothers has also authored several chemistry textbooks, including Why Chemistry Reactions Happen, which provides students with the essential concepts and tools needed to approach chemistry problems from the perspective of a chemist. The book has been widely appreciated by science educators and is also recommended as essential reading for the International Chemistry Olympiad.
C3L6 Coaches

Dr. Alexander Thom
Cambridge Chemistry Challenge Coach / Professor of Chemistry at the University of Cambridge
Dr. Thom is a Lecturer in Theoretical Chemistry at the University of Cambridge. His research interests focus on theoretical and computational chemistry, with particular emphasis on the development of methods and software. His current research includes the use of coupled-cluster methods to accurately calculate electronic energies, the use of new methods to describe the excited states of large molecules, from dyes to molecular magnets, and the application of quantum chemistry algorithms in quantum computing.

Dr. Jonathan Cooper
Cambridge Chemistry Challenge Coach / PhD, University of Cambridge
Jonathan Cooper studied Natural Sciences at St Catharine’s College, University of Cambridge. His doctoral research focused on molecular self-assembly. He used novel magnetic resonance imaging techniques to investigate the gas flow through oil and gasoline particle filters, and was awarded a PhD in Chemical Engineering.

Mr. Richard Danylyuk
Cambridge Chemistry Challenge Coach / University of Cambridge Graduate
Richard studied at St Catharine’s College, University of Cambridge. His master’s project was conducted in the Phipps group, where he developed a new synthesis method using an uncatalysed reaction and continued this research during his PhD, which began in October of the same year. In 2019, Richard represented the UK at the International Chemistry Olympiad held in Paris, where he won a Gold Medal. For the past two years, he has served as a coach at the Cambridge Chemistry Challenge Camp.
Previous Projects
* Below are introductions of past projects. Specific practical courses are subject to adjustment based on actual circumstances.

Synthesis of Surfactants and Measurement of CMC
IChO past experiment problem; Preparing SDS Solutions, and measuring their conductivity at different concentrations, and determining the CMC by plotting graphs.

Cambridge Chemistry Application Session& Mock Interview Showcase
Professor Wothers, one of the senior interviewers for the chemistry major at the University of Cambridge, will share insights into the Cambridge application and interview experience with students. Furthermore, Professor Wothers will do a mock interview with a student, demonstrating the real interview scenarios. This event is not only a valuable learning opportunity but also an excellent window to understand the selection criteria and style of one of the world’s top universities.
