A difficult test for high school students to select UK Olympiad team
Investigated comprehensive mathematics academic strength
Top students from all over the world competed together
BMO Round 1 Date: Nov. 20, 2025 (Thur.) 17:00-20:30
BMO Round 2 Date: Jan. 22, 2026 (Thur.) 17:00-20:30
BMO China Camp Date: TBD
Introduction

BMO has two rounds: BMO Round 1 and BMO Round 2. Only the top 10% in BMO Round 1 can participate in Round 2. UKMT will select the top UK students from Round 2 to take part in the UK National Mathematical Olympiad camp and select the national team. Different from the multiple-choice questions of the SMC, BMO is mainly a proof question, which requires students to specify the steps and process of solving the problem, and to investigate students' comprehensive mathematical academic strength in depth. In the UK, only students with excellent SMC results are eligible to participate in BMO Round 1. In China, Chinese students can directly register for BMO Round1.
2024 BMO China Camp: Starting from 2023, the British Mathematical Olympiad Committee, in collaboration with ASEEDER, will introduce the top-level academic camp to China. This camp adopts the teaching content and methods of the UK- based camp. The main focus is not to have students solve more difficult problems, but rather to cultivate their thinking skills and problem-solving ability. This ability is highly valued by prestigious institutions such as Oxford and Cambridge. The BMO China Camp will also provide sessions to share experiences related to applying for mathematical programs at universities like Oxford and Cambridge. According to the committee's admission policy, there are limited seats available for this BMO China Camp, with only 80 positions open for registration. Invitations are directed towards students who have excelled in the 2023 British Mathematical Olympiad (BMO), and the allocation of seats is on a first-come, first-served basis until all spots are filled.
