Berkeley Physics Tournament (BPT)
Berkeley Physics Tournament (BPT)
hosted by the Berkeley
Society of Physics Students (SPS)
Date: Nov. 29-30, 2025 (Weekend)
Introduction
The University of California, Berkeley is a world-renowned research university with a prestigious reputation in academia, and stands as one of the world’s most prominent research and teaching hubs. In the 2025 ARWU, UC Berkeley ranked 5th worldwide, with its science, engineering, computer science, and humanities programs consistently placed among the top five globally. As of 2024, UC Berkeley has produced 110 Nobel Prize laureates (3rd globally), 14 Fields Medalists (4th globally), and 25 Turing Award winners (3rd globally).
The UC Berkeley Physics Department is a world-leading institution, consistently top-ranked globally. It placed 3rd in the 2025 US News (Physics) and 6th in the 2025 QS Rankings (Physics & Astronomy). The department's globally acclaimed research spans theoretical, experimental, and astrophysics.
The Berkeley Physics Tournament (BPT) is an international team-based physics event officially hosted by the Berkeley Society of Physics Students (SPS), open to middle and high school students.
The Berkeley SPS has repeatedly received the “Outstanding Chapter” award from AAPT. The society regularly organizes physics challenges, academic lectures, career forums, and lab tours, providing students with pathways into research and academia.
Unlike individual-based tests, BPT includes both individual and team challenges covering theoretical, experimental, and collaborative aspects, fostering participants' passion for sicence.
From 2025, SPS will establish both Berkeley and Asian Divisions, employing a common set of questions for global participation. In Asia, SPS has partnered with ASEEDER to officially organize and administer the Asian Division.
